Himalayan Steam Train in Darjeeling

Himalayan Steam Train in Darjeeling

There is one more colourful chapter in our programme – the toy train ride. The winding narrow gauge rail track (about 86km long) takes you on a fairy tale trip – from the foothill forests through the alpine woods – past small hill villages to a glittering Darjeeling. The toy train introduced in the year 1879, is also a world heritage site. A ride is yet another patch of colour on your palette of dreams.

There are several ride options for tourists on Darjeeling Railway. The nostalgic ride in the old steam engine built 150 years ago takes you to Ghoom from Darjeeling chugging its way along the spirals and loops through the tea garden valleys, mystic silver pine woods and small colourful villages. The ride takes you to Batasia Loop – a picturesque garden with the backdrop of Kanchenjunga and then to the Ghoom station and railway museum – the only of its kind in Eastern India before taking you back to Darjeeling in 2hrs.

4 Wheel Jeep Safari to Sandakphu in Singalila National Park

It's again a feeling of history with our most used old-fashioned Landrover Jeeps for the safari in the rugged hilly terrains of the Darjeeling - Singalila ranges. And that, of course, includes Sandakphu and Phalut! You just hit the road. And the road widens ahead of you, for greater heights.

Our journey to Sandakphu will start from here. The journey through rough gravel road by age-old Landrover Jeep to Sandakphu is uncomfortable but the scenic landscape of the surrounding will ease out the pains of the travel as you leave Maneybhanjang and continue through the green pasture and pine forests towards Tonglu at 3070M (10235ft).

We take a break at Tonglu for lunch and stretch our limbs. The mesmerizing beauty of the Himalayan snow ranges appears on the horizon. Spend your time in the serene landscape looking at the mighty Himalayas, while we prepare your lunch.

We continue our journey after lunch, and another 14 km drive through the uphill gravel road along the short rhododendron forests takes you to Kalepokhri at 3081M (10270ft). Stop for a while near a tiny crystal lake and enjoy the landscape with a cup of tea.

Another 6 km steep ride from Kalepokhri through the magnolia and rhododendron takes you to Sandakphu – the highest point in Singalila in West Bengal. Nestled at an altitude of 3636M (12100ft), Sandakphu offers an unparallel view of some highest peaks in the world, like Kunchenjungha, Everest and Makalu.

Spend some spellbound moments as nature plays with colours on the horizon. We will now drive back to Mim for the warmth of the Yule's Comfort.
